"...Why can't they be like we were - perfect in every way? What's the matter with kids today?" I can't help but laugh at myself, finding it hard not to quote the overbearing father in the musical Bye Bye Birdie, when everywhere I look there are toddlers with cellphones, little punk wannabe 2nd graders wearing over sized jerseys and baggy pants, 8-year-old children with myspaces and facebooks that run their entire existence. I hear others complain all the time about how 'kids today' aren't being taught the right values and fundamentals of being an adult in actual reality, but rarely do we see those same people doing anything about it. Well, I'm going to. I'm still just a kid in my opinion, and I like to have fun and learn new things. Maybe I can rub off on my nieces and nephew as they grow.
Kim and I were just talking this morning about taking her kids to the Museum of Science and History :D There is soooo much stuff to do there for children, interactive exhibits, the dinosaur dig, and the Omni Theater are just a few off the top of my head. I'd also like to take A and D to the Botanic Gardens up there soon, maybe get them dressed up and head up when the Monarchs are migrating through to get some really beautiful pictures. I know they love to fly kites, and I think they might like the Japanese Gardens there, where they can feed the fish in the Coi Pond and we'd get interesting kites from the gift shop. OOOH I just found out the zoo is having classes for children D's age every Saturday morning where they learn about and interact with some of the animals there. I have yet to find information, but I've heard rumor that the FW Library has staged readings and kid's theater every other week, and I'd love to take them to that as well. Trinity Park has a train that goes around the grounds for children to ride, which I'm sure D would absolutely LOVE. If it were later in the year I'd want to plan a trip to 6flags but I don't think they can handle Fright Fest just yet. Holiday in the park will be perfect though.
Even more locally, there's an outdoor museum just 2-3 minutes from the house with a recreated Old Wardville from the 1840s. There are cabins and a wagon station, a windmill, and some tepees set up right at the entrance, and I thought it might be fun to do have them make headdresses out of craft supplies and I'll get my cowboy hat and we could play a bit while they learn about some of Texas' history. Dad wants to take them out on the boat soon I'm sure, and we could go fishing and swimming while it's still warm. SOOOO MANY IDEAS. I just hope the kids have the endurance to walk around a park :)
